Thought For Today - 3/30/10

I grew up in a home where my mother kept plastic covers on the couch in the living room in order to protect it. The irony is that we lived our lives without ever having actually made contact with that couch!

My mother would say she was saving use of the couch for special occasions, as if everyday life was not special enough for us (her family) to warrant the use of sitting on the couch.

Down through the years I learned what it would mean to me if for example I worn my nicest clothes and ate off the good china on a daily basis. I now see every day that I'm alive as a special day and a cause for celebration, and that I'm worth it.

If there are things you have stashed away for a special occasion — a bottle of special wine, a gorgeous pair of shoes, an antique lace tablecloth — consider taking them out of their hiding places and putting them to use tonight, just because you are alive now to enjoy them, and that’s a great cause for a celebration.

Much love,
Joseph

We must live life fully, as each day were our last on this planet. Even when times get tough, or the clouds seems to hide the sunlight, we must choose to look for the miracles around us. They are present everywhere. A child's smile, the sound (and scent) of rain, the gentle breeze of the wind, flowers opening in spring (did I mention the fall foliage splendor?), and the list goes on. You add to this list from your own life. After all, it is yours to live. So live it fully, and with a joyful heart. Amy B.(a student immensely blessed by your presence and teaching, Joseph). Thank you!
